I use short ones for lots of other tasks. These course screws enter the wood very quickly and will need a pilot hole in many applications in spite of the "drill it while it screws itself in" point. Good in particle board, but not on the ends. These are excellent screws. The size 2 is readily available but the size 1 less so. Holds tight. The only problem I have is that I didn't notice they use a 1 square drive so I had to go out and buy one before I could use these screws. The square drive is easier to use than phillips.. I have split a number of pieces of wood with these screws and often use the fine screws instead to prevent splits. If you're used to phillips drive, where too much torque without enough pressure causes cam out stripping the head of the screw and the driver , you may find yourself breaking off the screw in your workpiece. They are long and really bite to draw things together but don't have too fat a head. The square drive meshes so well that the screw will frequently shear before the bit slips. These are awesome trim screws. They are hardened so the heads don't bugger easily. Buy some. Only 20 left in stock - order soon. I have never had the head of a Kreg screw break off, and the square drive hole is nearly impossible to strip out; although, I have managed it a time or two. I had screws that never split wood. Be careful! Used to mount my gutter rail which secures the rubber roof alont the upper wall edge. Same size as the originals. Use a lower torque setting on your variable torque clutch and drill a pilot hole! I use the long ones for stuff like difficult base board and interior trim spots where you need to get through some plaster and dry wall to reach the studs. But I do wish there were more sizes. Used these screws to replace all the weathered rusted looking screws on my camper exterior. Otherwise, these are great for my purposes. I had a few splits with these screws. Learn more about Amazon Prime. If you're not using square drive screws I don't even know what you're doing with your life. Seems like it is getting harder to find these painted square drive screws.

Skip to main content Square Head Screws. You MUST drill a good sized pilot hole to prevent these screws from splitting out the particle board. Get free delivery with Amazon Prime.

These will be my go-to screws from now one. The pro side is that the screw heads do not snap when bottomed out. On the flip side I haven't had a broken screw yet. My new Milwaukee is quite powerful so I don't blame the screws. Lopez Anaheim, Ca. Some have excess paint in the hole, but not a big deal. I find Kreg screws to be excellent. Works best pre drilled, with a little soap or lubricant on the threads. The reason for four stars instead of five is that some of the screws in here use a size 1 bit and some a size 2. I broke a couple of them when I set my hammer drill at maximum torque. Slow speed on the cordless drill also helped a lot. Time will tell how well they weather. See All Buying Options. Perfect for building decks. In Stock. Currently unavailable. I feel like if you bought the screws separately it would be the same price but you do get a neat carrying case. Great kit for an okay price. I love the square head - much better than a phillips head. Add to cart. All the screws now look good as new. I had to pre-drill every one of these screws in my redwood deck, otherwise the square drive would strip out of the screw and then I would have to get the locking pliers to spin it out. There's a problem loading this menu right now. They are superb in pocket hole applications. I am giving it a firm 4 stars. Worked great for me when reroofing my tralier. Good screws, I would buy them again. A few of screws noticeably bent but didn't break.
